Town & Country gets thorough upgrades

The series of changes made to the 2011 Chrysler Town & Country minivan add up to a thoroughly upgraded vehicle, the Albuquerque Journal said.

Just the latest example of Chrysler Group's ongoing renaissance, the newspaper says the Town & Country benefits from much appreciated reserves of power, delivered seamlessly through a slick-shifting six-speed automatic transmission as well as a newly relaxing ride, excellent handling and subdued road noise.

The Journal also noted attractive, chrome-rimmed gauges in the handsome dash, soft-touch materials in the door panels and seats swathed in a soft, luxurious cloth with improved padding.

Additionally, the Albuquerque Journal writes, passengers in the second row enjoy more comfort thanks to re-shaped cushions. Even the handy Stow-n Go® seats are redesigned to drop flat into their floor-level storage bins by merely pulling a single lever, the Journal said.

Ram, Jeep® vehicles best for tailgating

With the college football season starting up this weekend and the NFL campaign coming soon, Kelley Blue Book revealed its 10 picks for the best tailgating vehicles, AutoRemarketing.com reported.

KBB's Jack Nerad said you need a proper tailgating car to throw a proper tailgate party and the Ram 1500 tops their list.

The ace up this Ram's sleeve is the RamBox cargo management system: Locking bedside bins that can accommodate up to (20 12-ounce cans plus ice) of your favorite before-game beverage, KBB analysts pointed out.

The 2011 Jeep® Grand Cherokee also made the list.

That big, mean Dodge Charger Pursuit grille in your rear-view mirror soon may have more to it that just the authority of the law: it could be packing Mopar® upgrades, Motor Authority said.

Mopar Muscle Magazine said Dodge and Mopar announced six all-new quality-tested and factory-installed police-equipment packages for the high-performance 2012 Dodge Charger Pursuit. The parts underwent extensive testing to ensure the police upfit equipment met and exceeded the heavy-duty du-rability require-ments for the 2012 Dodge Charger Pursuit, the story said.

Edmunds Inside Line said the pack-ages feature emergency lighting, audible warning, communications and safety equipment. In addition to the packages, Mopar is offering 24 parts for the police vehicle, including a push bumper, trunk cooling fan and grille lights.

Heavy-duty Ram mixes toughness, luxury

The 2011 Ram 2500 Laramie Longhorn Mega Cab is just as much truck as its name suggests, but still manages to coddle tough guy drivers with leather and luxury in its cavernous interior, a re-view at Digitaltrends.com said.

Motor Trend magazine did an update on the 2010 Ram 2500 Laramie they are long-term testing. They first discovered the Ram's civilized nature when it took top honors in their 2010 Truck of the Year testing.

The Motor Trend editors all heaped praise on the Cummins turbodiesel, which produced 350 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque while averaging an impressive 14 mpg overall, and closer to 18 mpg on the open road.

Executive editor Edward Loh wrote that the truck can hold a near-ridiculous amount of gear: "The cab is enormous. We were able to stuff six bags of gear (two sets of snowboard boots and clothes, two overnight bags, a backpack of climbing gear and some food), a long case with two snowboards in the rear seat, and a case of beer from Indian Wells Brew Co. No problem."

Jeep® SRT8®: bigger, better, stronger, faster

Detroit News auto writer Scott Burgess admits that he doesn't have the DNA of a race car driver.

Burgess said he lifted his foot off the accelerator when the 2012 Jeep® Grand Cherokee SRT8®'s speedometer read 118 mph - even though there was still more power bursting out of the SUV's 470-horsepower 6.4-liter Hemi V-8.

"The all-new Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 will test your body's desire for self-preservation," Burgess said. "It's big and beefy and defies everything a person might think about an SUV. It's quick, it's nimble, it's mind-blowing powerful, it's track ready and daily driver worthy."

The only thing this Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 shares with the previous generation is the name, he said: Everything else is better, gloriously faster, stronger and more fun.

First, it looks like a hot rod SUV, Burgess wrote in the News. Inside comfort is not sacrificed at any point, he wrote. "What's the fun of going 160 mph ? its top speed if you can't listen to music through all 19 speakers?," Burgess wrote.

"Dollar for dollar, it's the single best SUV built today," Burgess wrote in the Detroit News.
